Ghafari team members were in Lansing, Michigan last week to celebrate the “topping out” – the ceremonial final steel beam installation – of the new Ultium Cells battery manufacturing plant. The sophisticated complex will house five distinct phases of battery cell construction, mixing, electrode, assembly, formation, and shipping – all contained in a massive 2.8 million SF facility the size of 30 football fields.

The Lansing plant is the third U.S. battery cell manufacturing campus for Ultium Cells, a joint venture between General Motors and LG Energy Solution. Located in America’s automotive heartland, this facility is integral to GM’s push to be the electric vehicle (EV) leader by mid-decade.
