A battery production facility driving a zero-emissions future.

Overview

Ultium Cells – a joint venture of LG Energy Solution and General Motors at the forefront of a zero-emissions future with their proprietary battery technology – is building their third U.S. battery cell manufacturing plant. Located in America’s automotive heartland, this facility is integral to GM’s push to be the electric vehicle (EV) leader by mid-decade.

TAILORING THE SOLUTION

A sophisticated facility the size of 30 football fields.

The sophisticated building will house five distinct phases of cell construction, mixing, electrode, assembly, formation, and shipping – all contained in a massive facility the size of 30 football fields. The mechanical systems will control both temperature and humidity (1% RH to 30% RH), in clean rooms / dry rooms that span 1 million SF. Free standing clean rooms allow for future flexibility of process equipment and design within the building envelope. Given the rapidly evolving world of EV, integrated project delivery and prioritized communication between multiple entities are necessary to maintain the accelerated schedule.
