Ghafari to Design New First Solar Module Manufacturing Plant in Ohio
Dearborn, MI – Global architecture, engineering, and process design firm Ghafari Associates is set to design the new First Solar module manufacturing plant in Lake Township, Ohio. The one-million-square-foot facility will sit on a greenfield site and once complete will be the largest single thin-film solar module manufacturing facility in the U.S.
“We are excited to be part of such a monumental project,” says George Barbu, Ghafari Vice President. “The project has an aggressive schedule – we started the design for the facility in March and broke ground for construction this June. Our team has worked hand-in-hand with project stakeholders to help them achieve their goals for this project. We’re looking forward to the completed facility.”
Ghafari is providing programming, planning, architecture, interior design and structural engineering services for the new facility.
First Solar officially broke ground on the massive factory on June 8. The new facility will be located near First Solar’s existing factory and research and development center in Perrysburg, Ohio. The Lake Township facility will have the capacity to produce 1.2 gigawatts of the company’s new, large-format Series 6 modules each year.
