CANstruction Detroit Time Lapse Video

Ghafari proudly participated in this year’s CANstruction Detroit, an AIA Detroit-led design + build competition in which teams of local architects, engineers, contractors, designers, and students came together to design and construct structures made entirely from canned food. Following the competition, all of the “building materials” were donated to Gleaners Community Foodbank of Southeastern Michigan.

This year’s competition was inspired by the theme "Nostalgic 90s". Our team combined creativity, pragmatism, and a giving spirit to develop our “CANstructure”, modeled after the beloved Home Alone movie franchise and comprised of more than 3,800 cans. We walked away from the competition with a whopping three of six awards, including “Most Cans”, “Best Use of Labels”, and the coveted “People’s Choice”.
