American Airlines Celebrates Opening of DFW Terminal E Expansion
American Airlines celebrated the opening of the Terminal E satellite at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, one of the most significant expansions in U.S. aviation in recent history that adds 15 gates with capacity for 100 daily flights.
Ghafari provided planning, architecture, and engineering services for the project, which converted an existing nine-gate independent concourse into a 15-gate dedicated regional jet operation. To accommodate growing passenger volumes, our design includes the addition of six contact gates, reconfiguration and modernization of holdrooms, and improved ramp level rooms, such as break rooms and stores and maintenance areas, to support American’s various user groups. Our solution also relocated and consolidated corresponding operations, personnel offices, and support spaces with the regional gates at the concourse and mezzanine levels of the building.
We completed the project using the integrated project delivery (IPD) method, teaming early with American and our construction partners. This approach enabled us to expedite effective discovery, scope definition, design, and implementation of the required work in order to meet the aggressive implementation schedule of just under 13 months.
