HAECO Americas’ Hangar Achieves LEED Silver Certification

HAECO Americas’ newest aircraft maintenance hangar at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina, recently achieved LEED Silver Certification.

Ghafari supported HAECO with design and owner’s representation services for the 250,000 SF, two-bay hangar – which can simultaneously house eight narrow-body aircraft or two wide-body and two narrow-body aircraft – along with a support center. At 176,000 SF, the hangar space is about twice as big as each of the other four hangars at HAECO’s Greensboro headquarters.

The hangar was specifically designed and constructed with sustainability in mind. 33% of all building materials were manufactured from recycled materials, and 93% of construction waste was diverted from landfills. In daily operations, total water consumption has been reduced by 46% and a 25% savings in energy costs achieved compared to a similarly-sized, traditional facility.
