Crain’s Detroit Business: LiftBuild Technology Successfully Hoists Million-Pound Floorplate to Top of The Exchange

LiftBuild LLC’s patented technology successfully hoisted some 1 million pounds of steel, concrete, and other building materials to the top of an under-construction residential high-rise in Detroit’s Greektown neighborhood, The Exchange. It took approximately 10 hours to raise the roughly 500-ton floorplate, rising at a rate of 20 feet per hour.

LiftBuild’s revolutionary technology allows individual floors to be built on the ground and then lifted into place, ultimately accelerating a given construction schedule by up to 30%. As the floors are installed from the top down, each successive lift will take less time.

Ghafari is a proud member of the design team supporting Gratiot Acquisition Partners and LiftBuild (a subsidiary of Barton Malow) on this groundbreaking project.

In addition to 165 residential units, the 16-story building will also offer 30 private office suites on the first floor that can be leased by the residents or the public. The second floor will offer a resident clubroom, fitness center, and deck.

The Exchange is expected to welcome its first residents in late spring of 2023.
