Q+A with Jovan Lozanovski, Project Architect (Dearborn)

How do you describe your job to people outside of the industry?

Besides the role of designer, the biggest part of my job is being the middleman between the client, contractor, and project team. A project’s success is dependent upon open communication, problem solving, and teamwork, all of which I strive to incorporate when bringing these three groups together.

Why did you decide to become an architect?

I decided to become an architect because I have always been interested in how things are built, and I enjoy problem solving and helping others.

How would you describe life at Ghafari?

Since Ghafari is a large, international company, I have had the opportunity to work on various project types and delivery methods, incorporating a unique skillset that I will carry forward for years to come.

What is the most exciting thing that has happened during your time here?

Ghafari provides many resources and study materials, which has helped me to become a licensed architect at the early age of 28. This has allowed me to take on more leadership responsibilities on projects such as GM Factory Zero.

What is a key idea or lesson you have learned while working at Ghafari?

I have learned the value of open and clear communication, as well as the importance of mentoring others. I would not have learned as much over the past seven years at Ghafari without mentors who were willing to give me additional responsibilities. I have also enjoyed the opportunity to mentor others.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Over the years, I have been involved in AIA and CSI, as well as various social events and leagues. These days I spend my free time with my wife, our one-year-old son, and our dog.
