WACO Aircraft Celebrates Battle Creek Expansion with Groundbreaking Ceremony
WACO Aircraft Corporation celebrated their planned expansion of multiple facilities in Battle Creek, Michigan with a groundbreaking ceremony on May 7.
The project includes the construction of two new service hangars with “vintage look” facades, a fabrication space addition, an engine assembly addition, along with a new office, fixed base operator (FBO) facility serving private aviation clientele, and a restaurant building. Totaling over 80,000 SF, these spaces will be connected to WACO’s existing bi-plane production and aircraft service facility. The project will enable the sports biplane manufacturer to add a third vintage aircraft to their product line as well as expand their aircraft servicing and retrofitting business.
Ghafari is providing design services for the project, working with contractor Walbridge as part of a design-build team. Design is currently underway with construction expected to start shortly with phased turnovers beginning in early 2020.
“Ghafari is very excited to be part of the Walbridge design-build team working with WACO Aircraft Corporation on their visionary expansion of the existing facility at W.K. Kellogg Regional Airport,” said Tom Tooley, Ghafari Senior Vice President.
