Supporting 250+ flights daily, United Parcel Service (UPS) had outgrown their existing aircraft maintenance base at their primary air cargo hub, Louisville International Airport (SDF). As a result, the logistics company embarked on the development of a new three-phase aircraft MRO complex to support their growth over the next decade and beyond.
Embracing UPS’ vision and objectives for the new facility, our solution provides a safe and effective working environment for both employees and technical partners. The new complex, which can accommodate two B747-8F aircraft, is a modern, fully enclosed, high-quality steel building. Our planning and design efforts gave special consideration to the airside and landside site requirements as well as offering capabilities for future expansion.
The airside design consists of an apron and associated taxilane connector and jet engine storage and ground support equipment staging areas. For the landside components, the design includes an employee parking area.
Driven by operational expansion, the new facility provides UPS with the opportunity to improve and consolidate their line and base aircraft maintenance operations for the long term at their SDF Worldport campus. The finished complex earned a Two Green Globes Certification for sustainability.
