Overview

The B.O.B. (an acronym for Big Old Building) retains much of the character and charm of the original 1903 grocery warehouse. Over the years, The B.O.B has been cultivated into a mainstay event space in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids.


The Ghafari team worked collaboratively with the owner, crafting a mix of contemporary and old-world vibes to design an upscale cocktail lounge and event space. The owner, Gilmore Collection, was looking for a modern update that embraces the rustic and historic nature of the B.O.B.

Collaborative vision meets contemporary edge.

An upscale cocktail lounge and event space, the Ashton Lounge exudes an intimate charm with a contemporary edge. Visitors are met with rich textures and a warm color palette of deep green and caramel, polished wood, gold and bronze accents, and plush seating. The centerpiece of the design is the sleek bar, which is framed by mirrors and bathed in a golden light. The project transformed the mostly empty floor plan into a formal gathering space with flexibility for various event sizes and types.
