Q+A with Brittnee Shaw, Interior Designer
How do you describe your job to people outside of the industry?
As an interior designer, I work closely with our architects, engineers, and clients to create spaces that are functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing.
Why did you decide to become an interior designer?
I always knew I wanted to be involved in design somehow and the more I traveled, the more I realized just how incredible a space could be through good design. While studying interior design, I began to see how great of an impact the design of a space could have on people. The aesthetic is always the first eye catcher; it is what turns the space into an environment. But beyond that comes the use of the space, the accessibility of it, and the psychology behind the design – all of the “behind the scenes” design factors that most don’t even think about that allow the space to function as intended. That is what drew me in.
How would you describe life at Ghafari?
Life at Ghafari is a little different right now, much quieter than pre-COVID, but also much furrier. I have made my newest coworkers much happier by being available 24/7 for head scratches and belly rubs.
What is the most exciting thing that has happened during your time here?
Ghafari created an amazing design for IIDA’s Finish 2 Fashion this past fall. While we didn’t receive any awards, we had a ton of fun, rocked the stage and are already pulling together ideas for the next show!
What is a key idea or lesson you have learned while working at Ghafari?
Adjust accordingly. You never know what is going to be thrown your way, so always be prepared for anything and everything.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Outside of work, I love to travel, enjoy the local food scene, and spend time in the outdoors with my husband and puppy. More recently with everything going on, I have taken on mountain biking. I’m not very good, but it is a great workout and a lot of fun.
