Q+A with Anai Quintanilla, VDC Specialist III (Dearborn)

Q+A with Anai Quintanilla, VDC Specialist III (Dearborn)

How do you describe your job to people outside of the industry?

The best way that I would explain this is that the job is like being an orchestra conductor, but for design. I get to put everyone’s work together and coordinate to get the best out of them.

We all help to find each other’s slips, work in conjunction, and get a better outcome for everyone.

Why did you decide to become a Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Specialist?

The love for helping to improve, in any degree, lives through infrastructures that will contribute to a positive change in the quality of life for people. That love led me to pursue a civil engineering degree.

I’ve been working in different areas of construction and now design, thinking the fact that whatever we are designing / building will outlast us as a legacy of our work. Even if we just contribute a little in that process to change the world for the better, that brings me happiness.

How would you describe life at Ghafari?

Teamwork is the most important, especially in this fast-paced environment, and constant learning. I enjoy that Ghafari allows me to keep learning in every area and learn from others.

What is the most exciting thing that has happened during your time here?

Being able to work on different projects. I get to collaborate with different teams, companies, and people all over the world.

I’ve met wonderful people that always inspire me to do my best and constantly learn from my peers.

What is a key idea or lesson you have learned while working at Ghafari?

Always innovate and develop more efficient processes in any area of our jobs. Challenges are just an area for opportunity.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Mostly traveling when I can, especially with all my family and friends all over; trying different food; volunteering every time that I can, because I feel that it’s important to give back to our community; and reading about history. Lately as a new mom, I’ve enjoyed reading books to my baby with special effects (mastering all sorts of farm animal, vehicle, and airplane noises).
