Ghafari Celebrates Groundbreaking Ceremony for 6K Energy PlusCAM Battery Material Production Plant

Ghafari team leaders were on hand to celebrate the June 13 groundbreaking of the world’s first sustainable multi-chemistry cathode manufacturing plant, a $200+ million production facility for 6K Energy located in Jackson, Tennessee. Known as the PlusCAM factory, the full-scale battery material manufacturing plant is slated to open in late 2024 with an annual production capacity of 13K metric tons.

Ghafari is providing full architecture, engineering, and operations + systems design services for the PlusCAM factory, the world’s first UniMelt® plasma cathode plant that will offer low-cost, ultra-sustainable production of battery material for localized supply chains in the United States. Evans General Contractors is heading up the construction efforts.

Chairman + Founder Yousif B. Ghafari, Executive Vice President Mike Scimeca, and Vice President Scott Heywood represented Ghafari at the groundbreaking ceremony, which was attended by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, 6K CEO Dr. Aaron Bent, and 6K Energy President Sam Trinch along with local business and community leaders and lithium-ion battery industry executives.

“Our PlusCAM facility is the world’s most sustainable process that fulfills the need for domestically sourced low-cost battery material for our nation’s critical infrastructure, grid storage, and electric vehicles,” said Sam Trinch of 6K Energy. “Having representatives here at the groundbreaking such as our prospective customers, materials suppliers, design and construction partners, as well as Governor Lee and his team of Tennessee state and county officials, underscores the importance of delivering low-cost battery materials.”
