CAM Magazine Outstanding Construction Projects: Stellantis Mack Avenue and Warren Truck Assembly Paint Shops
The Stellantis Mack Avenue and Warren Truck Assembly Paint Shops were included in the CAM Magazine October Special Issue featuring 12 outstanding construction projects in Michigan.
Ghafari provided architecture and engineering services for both paint shops, part of the automaker’s $4.5 billion investment in manufacturing in Michigan aimed at creating more than 6,500 jobs in the state. With the growing demand for the Jeep brand, Stellantis (then called Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA)) decided to transform their existing Mack Avenue Engine Complex in Detroit into a vehicle assembly plant, a $1.6 billion project that required an all-new paint shop. At the same time, they were developing a new paint shop as part of a $1.5 billion investment at their plant in Warren.
Ghafari worked with general contractor Barton Malow and paint equipment supplier Giffin on the two paint shops concurrently on an accelerated delivery timeline. By working on both paint shops simultaneously, the team was able to streamline the decision-making process and apply lessons learned from the 800,000 SF Mack paint shop to the 400,000 SF Warren paint shop.
