Q+A with Katy Rupp

Immersive Design Specialist, Dearborn

How do you describe your job to people outside of the industry?

I work with clients to develop spaces that facilitate their needs.

Why did you decide to become an architect?

Architecture is one of the few industries that touches every single person, spans centuries and across all cultures. This is the reason why buildings act like big story books; you just need to walk up and open the door.

How would you describe life at Ghafari?

Down to earth and supportive. Without hesitation we jump to participate in charitable causes, industry events, and most notably dressing up like Elvis Presley and Tom Selleck for Halloween. #squadgoals.

What is the most exciting thing that has happened during your time here?

The opportunity to research and develop emerging technologies. Virtual, augmented, and extended reality and computational design are tools that can assist us in producing a higher level of design and construction for our clients.

What is a key idea or lesson you have learned while working at Ghafari?

Ask for feedback. Producing the best quality work requires listening to a variety of people and incorporating their opinions during the design phase.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Yoga, sightseeing, volunteering, gardening, restaurant touring, and other shenanigans.
