The Turkish government is constructing a new airport in Istanbul that when complete, will be the largest in the world and will accommodate the rapid growth of its national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines (THY). With the development of an all-new airport, THY has seized the opportunity to build a series of next-generation support buildings, including an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) base for Turkish Technic, their MRO services arm.

We are working closely with THY’s operations and real estate management teams to provide master planning for the long-term MRO development along with programming and comprehensive facilities design for the first phase of the technical campus. Through this collaboration, we aim to deliver a practical facilities arrangement and design that will meet THY’s future operating needs and establish a center of MRO excellence.

Facing challenging site conditions, including a variable topography and a relatively constrained airfield arrangement, we tailored and adjusted the functional requirements of the MRO complex in developing the master plan to enable phased development and incremental investment. At 300,000 SM, the completed base will be the largest single-location MRO complex in the world.

Our design applies advanced facilities and systems technologies to offer solutions that are feasible, cost-effective, and geared towards future growth. The 120,000 SM Phase-1 campus encompasses administrative and engineering centers along with two hangars, one accommodating a wide-body tri-plane configuration and the other a narrow-body six-station configuration. The complex will accommodate the largest known commercial aircraft in a flexible hangar platform.

We are collaborating with THY to realize their vision of an MRO campus that meets their near- and long-term operating needs. Most importantly, we are planning and designing a complex that signals the next chapter in Turkish Technic’s operations, supporting their continued evolution into a world-class aircraft MRO services provider.
