A headquarters to enable future growth.

Overview

With space constraints at their existing offices created by substantial growth and a desire to be closer to the adviser community to enhance their team-orientated culture, OVD Insurance chose to relocate their headquarters and more than 100 employees to downtown Grand Rapids.

Ghafari provided interior design, structural engineering, furniture and fixtures planning, and architectural design services for a unique space in the heavy timber and masonry building, which had previously housed a refrigeration appliance manufacturer. This created challenges in laying out spaces within the short column bays and routing building systems with narrow floor joist spacing.

    TAILORING THE SOLUTION

    A modern design that respects its building’s rich history.

    Our design is built on the existing open feel, maintains the exposed heavy timber and masonry architectural aesthetic, capitalizes on natural daylight with views of the city, and meets the associate office privacy and acoustic needs. Additionally, a work café and working lounge spaces promote connectivity in the space. The resulting design is a new workspace that successfully celebrates the building history with repurposed aesthetics.

    After doubling in size over the past five years, OVD plans to continue their growth trajectory. Their new headquarters office provides the workplace environment to support that goal.
