A major step forward in realizing a more sustainable future.

Overview

As part of their journey to an all-electric future, General Motors (GM) has added a battery assembly plant to their Ramos Arizpe complex in Mexico. The existing plant includes vehicle assembly, propulsion systems assembly, body shop, paint shop, and stamping buildings.

Working in partnership with Walbridge on the design-build project, we designed the 1 million SF facility, which includes a nearly 80-foot tall, automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) that stores and delivers the engine and battery components to the main assembly plant. Along with battery packs and electric motors, the plant will eventually produce electric vehicles. GM will be upgrading the existing infrastructure around the plant now that the battery assembly is completed.

The new battery assembly plant brings GM and their Ramos Arizpe campus one step closer to their goal of realizing a more sustainable future. Ghafari continues to provide services for facility modifications / upgrades.
