Q+A with Tiffany Pupa, Senior Interior Designer (Dearborn)

How do you describe your job to people outside of the industry?

I am a commercial interior designer, and my job is to orchestrate an experience through the built environment to achieve a desired outcome, all while protecting people’s health, safety, and welfare. In every type of space there are behaviors naturally occurring and ones that we want to encourage, and I get to study how the physical world around us bridges us to make those decisions.

Why did you decide to become an interior designer?

I always had a passion for sustainability and wellness, and back in college I originally majored in environmental engineering. I wanted to create building materials that would improve the health of occupants and the natural environment, but I quickly realized I could have a much more immediate impact while also expressing my creativity if I focused on design. I changed my major to interior design and conducted research on sustainability, occupant health, and satisfaction.

How would you describe life at Ghafari?

The first word that comes to my mind is pleasant. Everyone I have worked with is authentic, curious, and hungry for new perspectives. It feels easy to be yourself, and you’re encouraged to explore your talents and interests. There is never a stagnant day, and most impressively there is no ego. Everyone focuses their energy on collaborating, creating, and problem solving, making it a very positive place to be!

What is the most exciting thing that has happened during your time here?

I am dedicated to the Ford account and have the privilege of developing strategies for the future of work. It is an exciting honor to work with one of the world’s largest companies to create transformational experiences that prioritize the holistic wellbeing of our people and planet.

What is a key idea or lesson you have learned while working at Ghafari?

The industry is evolving. The lines between each discipline are blending as we work in sync, and our potential impact is expanding as we embrace an integrated design process.

How do you like to spend your free time?

In my free time you can find me throwing clay at the potter’s wheel, experimenting with a new dish in the kitchen, or practicing photography (my dog Kyya is my muse)!
