Q+A with Pavan Macwan

Practice Technology Specialist, Baroda

How do you describe your job to people outside of the industry?

It’s hard to explain the nature of my job to non-industry people, as I deal with a combination of advanced software and technology that require engineering and software skills. Often, I tell them that I work on buildings and services that are first built virtually on a computer as models before they are actually built on site.

Why did you decide to become an engineering technology specialist?

Since childhood, I was fascinated with the magical power of new computer technology. I was always curious to know how computers work; what force drives them. Playing with computers was one of my hobbies since a young age. That encouraged me to pursue the engineering and technology field.

How would you describe life at Ghafari?

Since joining Ghafari, I have had ample opportunities to work on complex and mega projects. These types of projects demand new challenges and creative solutions. Every project has some unconventional and specific requirements. Ghafari has offered opportunities to work with the most advanced software and tools. Being a technology lover, I have embraced the challenge. Ghafari also encourages staff to explore and implement new ideas.

What is the most exciting thing that has happened during your time here?

There are two projects worth mentioning: the Ford Sanand plant and the Turkish Airlines campus. Both these projects were mega and complex with unique design demands and BIM requirements. I was involved in both these projects from the inception to the end of project and enhanced my knowledge and skills in the process.

What is a key idea or lesson you have learned while working at Ghafari?

Ghafari’s Baroda staff always works as a team and is like a family. I regularly conduct training sessions for the team to acquaint them with new technologies. This helps them and the company to be more productive on our projects. The key to success for any project is teamwork.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I love to ride my Royal Enfield Motorcycle to countryside areas and take photos of nature. I also do volunteer work to improve the lives of tribal children by providing them education on weekends.
