Q+A with Kaiti Koslowski

Architect II, Chicago

How do you describe your job to people outside of the industry?

To sum it up in a short sentence, I tell people outside of the industry that I am responsible for designing a building to function properly for its users, ensuring it’s safe, and making it look good.

Why did you decide to become an architect?

I thought architecture was a good fit for me as a profession because I am obsessed with details. Every building is comprised of smaller details of varying scales that must act cohesively for the building to function properly. How these details come together present challenges that I find really interesting to solve.

How would you describe life at Ghafari?

I would describe life at Ghafari as a good mix of work and leisure. We work hard together as colleagues during office hours, and hang out as friends after work at extra-curricular company activities, such as happy hours, rec-sports leagues, and seasonal parties.

What is the most exciting thing that has happened during your time at Ghafari?

The most exciting thing to happen to me since I’ve been here was being promoted. It was really exciting to know that I am advancing in my profession, and that my efforts in my work have not gone unnoticed.

What is a key idea or lesson you have learned while working at Ghafari?

A key lesson I have learned since working at Ghafari is the importance of time management. I have learned to use my time effectively and produce the best quality of work while I’m in the office, which in turn gives me time to do the things I like to do outside of work.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I’m pretty active and I try to go for a run a few times a week, especially on the lakeshore trail during the summer. Since moving to Chicago, I’ve also become a big foodie. I love trying new restaurants and bars around the city, and I have been working on improving my cooking skills at home.
