Q+A with Farhaan Faheem

Architect, Fort Worth

How do you describe your job to people outside of the industry?

As an architectural designer at Ghafari – I assist in the preparation and production of construction documents, which are essential for building construction. In general, an architect designs spaces and ensures that they are not only beautiful and attractive but also sustainable, safe, and habitable.

Why did you decide to become an architect?

I didn't always plan to become an architect. My fascination with art and structure grew with age when I'd flip through my mum's magazines on interior design. I'd sketch buildings and cars and build mini structures with Lego blocks, and it's on those strengths that I stumbled upon architecture.

How would you describe life at Ghafari?

Advanced. Motivational. Encouraging. These are some adjectives that come to my mind when I think of my time here.

In tune with the times, Ghafari encourages their team members to utilize the latest technology at work. Furthermore, my fellow colleagues have always been encouraging and supportive – whether it be from Chicago, Dearborn, or even Sao Paulo! I can always count on them whenever I needed their experience and this is something that I'd never had in my previous workplaces.

What is the most exciting thing that has happened during your time here?

One of the most exciting experiences was representing Ghafari when I worked directly at the Southwest Airlines headquarters with its facilities team in Dallas!

What is a key idea or lesson you have learned while working at Ghafari?

Never be afraid of taking risks and don't shy away from asking questions. We have many professionals who are amazing at what they do and they've always been supportive!

How do you like to spend your free time?

I try to get away from the city to travel when I get the chance, to spend time with my wife and son. During the weekends, I play cricket or ping-pong with my friends.
