Ghafari Executive Vice President Ray Clark and Global Director of Design Joe Gonzalez were both quoted in a recent Engineering News-Record article about how manufacturing sector clients are seeking highly flexible facilities that enable greater process efficiencies and collaboration among team members. In the article, “Manufacturing’s Quest for Project Efficiency”, they discuss our work with aerospace supplier Woodward, who was looking to integrate their office, engineering, administration, and manufacturing teams through a series of campus projects in Colorado and Illinois. Ghafari was tasked with bringing about greater transparency among these groups and a heightened sense of collaboration across the company, all while applying best practices in lean manufacturing.

“Our clients are clearly looking to our process group for advice, counseling,” says Joe. “We did three projects for Woodward, and we were very involved in establishing the process flow and delivery on each. Now, that amount varied per project, but process design is one of the things that we offer that’s important for the client to see.”

Flexibility of space is a huge consideration in developing processes within the plant, developing the plant and the adaptability of the space for technologies that are just emerging.

“Many of our clients come for repurposing of existing facilities or new facilities and know what they do today, have ideas of what they want to do tomorrow but, honestly, do not have a picture of where they’ll be in terms of product and manufacturing in five years,” Ray observes. “Flexibility of space is a huge consideration in developing processes within the plant, developing the plant and the adaptability of the space for technologies that are just emerging.”
