GM Baltimore Transmission Plant Expansion Earns LEED Silver Certification

A Ghafari-designed expansion to General Motors’ Powertrain Baltimore Transmission Plant recently earned LEED Silver Certification. The 103,000-square-foot addition supports the manufacture of rear-drive electric motors at the automaker’s facility in White Marsh, Maryland. The 24-bay expansion includes four new truck docks, along with a new main lobby entry area, shipping / receiving office, material storage crib, conference room, private and open offices, employee lunchroom and medical treatment area.

This LEED Silver facility harvests 9% of its annual electric needs from a 1.23 megawatt rooftop solar array, offsetting 1,100 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the air of the surrounding community. This facility also recycles, reuses and converts 100% of waste produced by daily operations into energy.
