Two Ghafari projects, the Chicago Federal Center Plaza restoration and the Dr. A.H. McCoy Federal Building modernization, received 2011 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) Awards. The annual competition recognizes the best examples of integrated modeling processes, advanced data exchange techniques and interdisciplinary collaboration. The 2011 award recipients were honored on May 11 at the AIA TAP BIM Awards Reception as part of the AIA National Convention in New Orleans.
The Chicago Federal Center Plaza Restoration, currently under construction in downtown Chicago, received a citation in the BIM Delivery Process Innovation category. Ghafari is providing comprehensive architecture, engineering, laser scanning and BIM integration services for the restoration of the 130,600 sq. ft. plaza as part of a task order contract with the US General Services Administration (GSA).
The McCoy Federal Building project, currently under construction in Jackson, Mississippi, received an honorable mention in the BIM Delivery Process Innovation category. Ghafari is providing BIM integration management services for the $87 million modernization project for the GSA, which includes significant updates to the 30-year-old federal building, as well as the addition of a new 3,000 sq. ft. security pavilion.
