Ghafari Associates welcomes the return of Richard W. Butwin, PE, to serve as Vice President of the firm’s Indiana operations. Butwin previously spent nearly 15 years with Ghafari, spending much of that time establishing the firm’s presence in Indianapolis and surrounding areas.
He has spent the most recent eight years of his career in a leadership role with an Indianapolis-based civil engineering firm, where he concentrated on large-scale projects in a variety of markets. He oversaw the development of the FBI Regional Headquarters in Indianapolis, as well as a multi-million dollar Indiana highway infrastructure project, casino and gaming facilities in Anderson, Indiana, and other complex design-build projects.
“We are excited to welcome Dick back,” said Ghafari President & CEO Kouhaila Hammer. “The experience he gained while with other firms, combined with his familiarity with Ghafari and the Indiana region make him the ideal candidate to lead our firm’s growth in the region.”
Under Butwin’s leadership, Ghafari looks to expand its services beyond industrial clients to include the growing life science and advanced manufacturing markets. He will also lead efforts to expand the office’s involvement with federal government projects under Ghafari’s existing IDIQ contract to provide architectural and engineering services to the US General Services Administration.
Butwin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and his Master of Business Administration degree from Eastern Michigan University. He is a licensed engineer in the states of Indiana and Michigan, and is a member of several professional organizations including the Economic Club of Indiana, Qualifications Based Selection of Indiana, Society of Marketing Professional Services, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and American Concrete Institute (ACI).
