Ghafari has successfully completed large-scale BIM enabled projects using all delivery approaches: Design-Bid-Build (DBB), Construction Management (CM), Design-Build (DB), and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), as well as BIM enabled hybrids of each. Applying BIM and lean practices can greatly enhance the flow of data and work; however, their effectiveness goes beyond the use of the best available technology.
Ghafari’s comprehensive experience across delivery systems confirms that project efficiencies improve as the team and work flows become more integrated. Ghafari is at the forefront of the industry trend towards increased collaboration between the owner, designer and contractor, and is a pioneer in the practice of IPD.
As Ghafari’s experience demonstrates, a truly integrated DB team can achieve IPD-like results in efficiency when interests are exchanged for shared project goals. Ghafari’s series of 11 DB projects for General Motors has been recognized by several associations for the breakthrough results achieved.
Ghafari is also providing BIM consulting services to Sutter Health’s Castro Valley hospital project, and is a signatory on the IPD Teaming Agreement. Sutter is widely recognized as the U.S. originator of IPD via its Integrated Form of Agreement. This groundbreaking project, and Ghafari’s contributions to its success, has been the subject of several articles and case studies, as well as the recipient of multiple awards, including a FIATECH Celebration of Engineering & Technology Innovation Award for New and Emerging Technology Implementations and Scenario-Based Project Planning.
Ghafari has conducted presentations on the Sutter project at several national forums, including Victor O. Schinnerer’s Annual Meeting of Invited Attorneys, McGraw Hill’s Business of BIM Conference, and as part of the “Integrated Project Delivery: IPD Facts & Fiction” webinar.
