Ghafari Chairman and Founder Yousif B. Ghafari, PE, FESD, has received the Engineering Society of Detroit’s (ESD) 2011 Horace H. Rackham Humanitarian Award. Mr. Ghafari, a Fellow of the Society since 2006, was honored at the ESD Annual Awards Dinner on June 23 in downtown Detroit.

The Rackham Award, ESD’s highest honor, is presented in recognition of an individual’s “outstanding humanitarian achievements as exemplified by meritorious technical accomplishments for the benefit of mankind or by recognition on either a local, national or international level for extraordinary achievements in civic, business, public-spirited or humanitarian endeavors.”

Mr. Ghafari was recognized for both his philanthropic contributions to Southeast Michigan as a local business leader and his exemplary diplomacy abroad during his recent tenure as the US Ambassador to Slovenia.
