As part of the historic Fontainebleau’s $1 billion renovation and expansion project, Ghafari was engaged by the Gallagher-Kaiser Corporation to provide laser scanning services. Ghafari’s laser scanning personnel was actively involved in the renovation of the hotel’s lobby area, theater space, adjoining second floor hallway and night club area. In total, the project covered approximately 157,000 sq. ft.
During the initial phase of the project, Ghafari personnel provided laser scanning services to enable the design team to quickly and accurately capture the as-built conditions of the designated areas of interest. Particular attention was given during the scanning process to capture subtle architectural elements, such as soffits in the main ballroom.
Ghafari converted the registered point cloud data into a 3D BIM model. The Miami Beach hotel’s columns, trusses, bracing, gussets, joists and structural concrete, as well as all walls, windows, doors, openings, fire protection piping and HVAC ductwork were modeled in detail. The 3D BIM model was then delivered to the design team for integration into the design process to identify and avoid potential clashes, as well as for the preservation of certain architectural details within the space.
