With a career spanning over 35 years, Ray has established a reputation as a design leader and enthusiastic advocate of exceptional work quality and collaborative project management. As Executive Vice President, he leads Ghafari’s Chicago office, overseeing operations and managing client relationships as well as new pursuits.
Ray’s vast portfolio includes work on complex educational campuses, high rises, significant aviation facilities, and landmark building renovations. With extensive international experience, he has applied his expertise across a wide scope—big and small, renovation and new construction—in both the public and private arenas. His high-profile work spans the globe and includes the 88-story Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai, the Bank of America Center in Charlotte, the Chicago Spire, and the King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh.
Ray holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in architectural studies, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Throughout his storied career, he has presented at a variety of forums, including the Chicago Architectural Foundation, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, the University of Illinois Graduate School of Architecture and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, among others. He has been actively involved in the Urban Land Institute, is a past board member of the American Institute of Architects Chicago Chapter, and is the past Chairman of the Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings. He also serves on the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.
